Termite Inspections
What is a termite inspection?
A termite or wood-destroying insect inspection includes termites, carpenter ants, carpenter bees and powder post beetles. The inspector at your home uses his experience and knowledge to determine if any of these insects are present. The inspector will probe visible areas of the structures to help determine presence of wood-destroying insects. He will also look for signs of frass, sawdust, dead insects, damaged wood, moisture and other physical evidence of these insects.
This is a visual inspection only. Some areas of the structure may be obstructed from view. While we will make every attempt possible to determine the presence of wood-destroying insects, we will not alter the structure in any way.
Areas obstructed from our inspection will be listed on your inspection report. Speed Exterminating Co. cannot be held responsible for infestations not visible or any future infestations.
What are wood-destroying insects?
Termites - These small white insects live underground and feed on wood from houses, garages, fence posts, roots and other wood debris. These insects are capable of much wood damage as they continuously return to the colony with more food. |
Carpenter Ants - These large black ants do not eat the wood but rather they galley out wood for nesting purposes. Colonies are often located in wet wood but could be found in many other areas. Carpenter ants can forage several hundred feet from their nest to find food and water. |
Carpenter Bees - These large, black and yellow bees bore holes in wood to lay their eggs. These holes are often found on wood-sided houses, porch railings, fences, eaves and overhangs. |
Powder Post Beetles - These small insects make small "pin holes" as they move in and out of wood. |
Suggestions to help reduce wood-destroying insects:
- Keep mulch to a minimum around foundation
- Avoid railroad ties and other wood landscaping materials
- Install vents in unexcavated areas
- Use a dehumidifier in the basement to reduce moisture in the wood
- Remove dead trees and debris from around the house
